Bobcat Track and Field Family and Alumni,
This will be my 1st of many updates during the 2013. In these emails you will find many valuable attachments including upcoming events, historical features, order of events, and results. I would like to welcome all of the new members to this update and also extend an invitation to anyone you would know that would like to receive these emails. We will have our annual parent meeting on Monday March 11th at 6:30pm in the North Gym. This has once again been a fantastic school year for Bobcat athletics. The fall sports all had a strong showing with the football team capping off the seasons with yet another playoff berth. This winter has been one of the best conglomeration of sports teams. The wrestling team had another fantastic year with 5 state qualifiers including a runner up finish by Sr. Dawson Nemmers and a 7th place finish by Jr. Brennan Koerperich. The bowling teams yet again had dominating performances throughout the regular season and both the boy's and girl's teams punched tickets to the state meet. Finally, the basketball programs both had fantastic seasons with Conference championships. The boy's are still playing for state and have a big game this Tuesday at Cedar Rapids Kennedy against Cedar Falls. Best of luck to the bowling teams and to the Boy's Basketball team on their journeys to state. With all of that being said this is also a very special season for boy's track and field due it's 50th year in existence! We are planning a ceremony at the Bobcat Relays for all former athletes and coaches and hope to make this a special experience both past and present boy's track and field athletes.
We started our track and field season on February 11th and have a great deal of success already. We have upwards of 65 boys out for the team which is the most all time. The boy's have been dealing with some inconsistent weather as most of you already know. We are very pumped about such large numbers and as everyone knows successful track teams are built upon strong numbers. We open our season with our 1st indoor meets on Tuesday March 5 at Loras and Wartburg. Order of events and times soon to come. We are also very excited to announce that the booster club made a very generous donation to the track and field programs. They purchased 88 new hurdles for the home stretch, 10 transport carts for the hurdles, high jump pit package, and long jump covers. All of this coupled with FAT timing and olympic style starting blocks puts us on the cutting edge of equipment for high school track and field.
Your son should have brought home several items of importance including a parent letter/schedule and our fundraising packet. Our schedule is subject to change. I will notify all with any upcoming changes. Each year we host a team retreat which is a very powerful experience for all athletes involved. I always have team building games, meals, and motivational speakers at each of these events with life long lessons. Our first team retreat has been tentatively set for Good Friday evening, I know this is a time for families to travel and that of course is most important. If you have any issues with this date please let me know. In the past we have had parents cook dinner and breakfast for our boy's, if anyone is interested in this please let me know.
The fundraising packet your son brought home is a very new program for us and we are excited about the program. The work that the athletes have to do is minimal and the rewards are great. We used to sell cookie dough for only 40% profit and with this new community service/pledge program we will earn 70% profit. The 1st thing the boy's have to do is complete the form of 12-15 sponsors. The next step will be us entering all of the sponsors on our online program which will then generate letters to each potential sponsor. All your sons have to do is enter the info and the letters get sent directly from our partner. After about 5 days we then want the boy's to make a call to each sponsor and just express their appreciation for their potential pledge. I will attach additional info.
We are looking forward to an exciting season in boy's track and field. I will be sending out new updates periodically with meet info and other different resources. Coach Ressler has designed a wonderful boy's track web page which can be found at the following link: http://westerndubuquetrack.weebly.com/index.html Also, we have a boy's track facbook page that I post different info on as well.
If you would like to be removed from this mailer please let me know.
